Time for Color’s Comeback

Color is Back, Baby!

Oakton Remixed

At least, we hope so. After what feels like years of minimalist domination—neutral palettes drenching every home on Instagram—we’re thrilled to see the shift toward vibrant, personality-packed interiors in 2025. Of course, color never went out of style around here, we love how it’s making a bold comeback.

Blues, Greens and Pinks Oh My!

Three powerhouse colors leading the charge? Blues, pinks and greens. These new neutrals are being embraced by designers across the industry and product design, proving that bold doesn’t have to mean overwhelming. Whether deep and dramatic or bright and fresh, these shades bring energy, dimension and serenity to many spaces. We combined ALL three of these colors to create a soothing primary bedroom retreat in Arlington for our real estate mogul of a client. Color and pattern help give that extra kick you need to jump out of bed feeling ready to tackle the world!

Adding POP!

Big, bold color choices don’t just make a statement—they set the mood. Take our Haymarket Scullery (this is my home, btw), for example. We introduced a soul soothing burgundy to craft a moody, sophisticated space that evokes calm elegance every time you stroll by. It’s proof that color isn’t just about aesthetics. It’s about feeling.

How-To: Bringing Color Into Your Space

Want to dive into color but don’t know where to start? We got you.

The easiest, lowest-commitment option? Furnishings and accessories. A statement piece—like a bold sofa, accent chair or supporting characters like lamps, pillow and throws —can instantly make a space feel FRESH. This home office space that we designed in McLean is the perfect example of how to add layers of color and pattern to create a super inspiring space.

Want to go bigger? Wallpaper is your best friend. The impact is unmatched. Whether it’s an intricate pattern, bold color or textured design, wallpaper infuses personality and depth, instantly transforming a room—even if it’s just by adding framed wallpaper panels like we did here in this DC home.

Experiment with Piping

Not ready to go all in on color? Pipe it up! Adding contrasting piping on sofas, pillows, headboards, ottomans and chairs is a chic, subtle way to introduce color without overwhelming your space. Think emerald green or hot pink edging on a living room chair—an instant refresh that adds a modern vibe. Here’s a great example of piping details that we added on a sofa in Warrenton. Piping has to be there, why not make it pop.
