Team EBI is back from the big city! You may have followed along and watched our stories as we hit the city streets. Now it’s time to dish the details about our New York trip.
Getting away is so important for everyone, especially for us creatives. It’s an opportunity to change up the day-to-day (though our days are never boring) and breathe new life into our projects. When we learned about this year’s “What’s New What’s Next” line-up, we figured a trip to the Big Apple was in order! It gave us the perfect opportunity to get extra hands-on and source for our many diverse clients, meet our sources first-hand, and get loads of inspiration to bring into our current projects & future ones! New York had plenty of inspiration to serve. Here’s a round-up of our favorite things.
Design Showrooms
We’re sure you know about Fashion Week, and maybe you’ve heard of High Point Market (interior design’s own “fashion week”), but perhaps “What’s New What’s Next” is new to you. It’s like a mini Market – complete with talks, new collections, and all sorts of goodies. Walking through each showroom was exciting as we hunted for current projects and spotted various product that we’ve sourced for our clients. It made us giddy thinking about upcoming reveal days!
While WNWN was the main reason for our trip, it certainly wasn’t our only event. We hit 1stdibs Gallery on the West Side for some retro glam inspiration. Their collection of vintage and contemporary furniture & accessories let our imaginations run wild.
We love how the movement and texture in the sofa, chandelier, table, and art piece relate to each other & balance this space.
Check out this eclectic gathering of details – there’s so much texture in each element!
Sources
We also saw some of our favorite sources outside of New York’s Design Center. Rug maker Jonathan Kashanian, of F.J. Kashanian, met with us at his gallery. We’d found the perfect rug for our colorful McLean project earlier this summer. So we HAD to make the trip to see what other beauties we could find for our other projects. Stay tuned to see our colorful reveal later this Fall.
Tile Bar was our next stop as we looked at options for our upcoming kitchen + bath projects. It’s the perfect place for creating unique combos.
Food + Drink
After our packed days of design talks, sourcing, and business dealings, delicious dinner & drinks were a must! Both were not only nourishing, but inspiring too. In most cases, our food was as inspired as the design of each restaurant. We hit the Upper West Side for Maison Pickle’s French American cuisine, the Bowery for Bar Primi’s homemade pasta, and Hudson Yards for Wild Ink’s dim sum. We also enjoyed skyline views from rooftop bars Castell and Le Bain.
Wild Ink had our vote for favorite interior. Check out the nailhead studded bar and the bamboo hanging from the ceiling. It also has a view that can’t be beat of Hudson Yards’ Vessel.
Sights
No trip is complete without a little free time to allow for spontaneity. We got outside and roamed the city – its the best way to see New York and be a part of it. We wanted to maximize our time there, so we hit a few sights and did a little shopping. Free time is important, because it gets our creativity flowing. Of course, there were inspiring things around every corner. From street art to stores, we found incredible designs everywhere! Here’s a few of our favorites.
