No matter what your personal style is, decorating for the holidays can sometimes feel like an overwhelming endeavor. From decorating the tree to decking the halls with garland and lights – it can feel like a real chore. To keep the decorating simple (and the décor over-the-top) this year, we’ve got three simple rules we live by when decking our halls for the holiday season. P.S. Our first tip, is to pour yourself a hearty cocktail 😉!
Rule #1: The Magic Is In The Mix
A basic Christmas, begins with basic decorations. What makes these homes feel designer throughout the holiday season, is the attention to detail & the masterful mixing of patterns and plumage. Whether you live for a real tree, or couldn’t live without your fake one, bringing in live foliage for the holidays is so important. From fresh flowers, to live wreaths, garlands and boughs – these elements of fresh foliage are timeless, and can go with any style of décor. Plus, living arrangements add an additional element of scent and texture to your holiday set-up. It’s those little details that elevate your design, and make it feel designer.
Fresh cut flowers and live wreaths aren’t all that it takes to create an elegant and elevated Christmas look. When it comes to your holiday décor, the bigger… the better. For your holiday additions stick to larger statement pieces, rather than small tchotchkes. It will allow your space to feel collected & curated, without coming off as cluttered. Plus, it makes the set-up, breakdown, and storage so much simpler.
Rule #2: Pick A Color Palette (& Go Unconventional)
Long-gone are the days of boring ole green and red. Usher in this season with a variety of luxurious color palettes. From jewel tones, to pastels, to metallics – anything goes this Christmas! The most important rule is to stay true to your own aesthetic and personal style.
Whether you’re a lover of approachable glamour (like moi) or you stand by your tried-and-true traditional, going for an unexpected color palette (that compliments your home) is the best way to go. Bring pre-existing colors from your home into your Christmas décor through ornaments, ribbons, lights, garlands, and wreaths. Another great idea; Don’t be afraid to spin your décor as “winter” instead of just Christmas! This way you can keep it up longer and it’ll have a classic and timeless feel, long after the tree comes down.
Rule #3: Bring Back A Sense Of Occasion
This year has been tough, there’s no doubt about that. So let’s make the holidays feel like an occasion again! Even if we’re just facetiming with our loved ones this Christmas, let’s pop the champagne and get to decorating like its 2019.
One of my all-time favorite holiday décor tips is to STOCK THE BAR. Though this year may mean smaller gatherings, or even no visitors at all, it doesn’t mean that you can’t make the season feel merry & bright with a few decadent cocktails. Stocking your bar is also not just practical, it’s pretty and gives your home such a feeling of elegance. Placing alcohol, mixers, and glittering glassware on your bar cart creates the perfect mix of colors, shapes, and sparkle. Plus, you’ll be ready to entertain at a moment’s notice, and can carry this décor through with you to the new year!
