Work Spaces to Ease the Routine

School is officially back in session, bringing with it: homework, school supplies, and packed schedules – oh my!

When it comes to their kids, our clients want spaces that keep their children organized yet encourage their creativity. That’s where we come in! We design solutions that help give kids (and parents) a place for everything from supplies to an inspired space for their next big idea. Whether your kids are school bound or home schooled, we’ve got the perfect ideas for getting your home ready for back to school.

Combined Work Spaces

As design professionals, our industry requires a lot of accessories & paperwork. We understand the importance of a workspace that is equally functional and beautiful for multiple people. More and more clients request combined workspaces in their home offices. They want a work area not just for themselves, but their kids too.

In our McLean project, we provided a work area for our client, as well as, multiple work stations for her children. The cabinetry, open shelving, and memo board by the kids’ desk offer both hidden storage and places to showcase their work. We loved including the round wooden table and fur stool – it adds warmth and whimsy to this office space, making it the perfect place to get creative!

Similarly, in our Haymarket II project, our clients wanted a few work areas. We separated work stations and emphasized storage by centering the cabinetry.

Homework Nooks

We’re big believers that if a space is beautiful, interesting, and fun that people will want to be there. The same goes with kids. Homework nooks can be creative spaces when it comes to color, storage, and setup. They are a great way to get kids excited about schoolwork and spark their imagination.

Mudrooms

Another area we maximize with function is the mudroom. As these spaces increase in popularity, their size and storage does too. They become great places to house kids’ backpacks, shoes, coats, sports gear, and more. Whether you prefer the look of open cubbies or closed storage, we can agree that either option eases us back into that school routine by keeping all of our daily essentials in one place.

In our Washington DC project, we opted for open storage to give a casual and welcoming look to the mudroom. The floor to ceiling built-ins provide so many options for display or storage. They give each person their own space to hang bags or backpacks and a place to stash their individual items from shoes to gloves.

We love the look of this mudroom too. Its storage feels more like furniture, and the closed doors hide the clutter.
