Getting over a brutal winter and feeling (and seeing) hints of spring in the air sure has me in my feels, and there are so many things we could talk about today, like how to get that patio ready for outdoor season. But before this slips from my mind, I want to talk about some of the hidden benefits of window treatments—there’s more to consider than you might think.
I know a lot of people think window treatments are purely decorative—but they can do so much more. Of course, there’s the obvious function, which is privacy, but let’s quickly chat about the key role they play in temperature control and energy efficiency. I’m mentioning this now because this winter was BRUTAL and I can bet you would have given an arm and leg to have had nice, insulating, interlined draperies that could hold off that cold draft and keep you feeling cozy. Beauty and brains, right? Get a fire going, pour a glass of red, start a movie and you’re golden! Snug as a bug…
Keep the same concept in mind for summer when you want to keep the sun’s relentless heat beating to a minimum. Think of your window treatments like you think of the sun shade you put on your car dash. If you block those rays, you’ll keep your home cooler, so your A/C doesn’t have to work overtime.
Think Ahead
Too often, good window treatments, you know, the ones that end up saving you money in the long run because they cut down on energy consumption, tend to get whittled down to strictly decorative, non-functional options in the budget discussion phase because the value isn’t seen or should I say felt on the front end. Ponder long and hard and make sure to think beyond the pretty and make sure you’re not sacrificing function and comfort that, in the end, you’ll wish you had.
